Managing a Kitchen & Roof Garden
The interest & efforts of Dr.Chandrasekharan, for arranging an meeting cum exhibition of Roof and Kitchen garden  on March 30,at VIIth main road CoC park for the benefit of residents of R.A.Puram, is greatly appreciated

There is ample scope and opportunity to develop kitchen and roof garden in urban towns and cities.Waste ( kitchen and organic) can be easily converted in to good organic nature using the space around houses and also using earthen/ plastic pots/ drums in houses and apartments. It is indeed a great fun and stress buster for senior citizens to develop Kitchen and roof garden and to observe watch the plants grow with care and concern.

Dr.H.K.LakshmanRao, former management professor and current Management consultant( who worked in Madras Fertilizers for over two decades) in  his residence at 33, krishnapuri, R.a.Puram Chennai  , has taken keen interest in converting waste in to wealth besides keeping the environment clean and green through converting kitchen waste/vegetable cuts, green d dry leaves particularly of neem tree into organic manure and using the same for growing flowers , betel leaves besides Coconut, Citrus trees, Jackfruit tress.Using only organic manure the  20 year mango tree yielded record harvest of 2400 mango fruits a few years ago.

This was published in Times of India andMylpore times. Senior citizens in Urban towns can take up Kitchen and Roof gardening as a hobby to keep them engaged( young aged)and also help supplement agricultural production.Department of Horticulture, Agriculture and CITY corporations can help and encourage such efforts by providing quality seeds, bursaries and advice. The yields/ harvests  can be routed through cooperatives  such as TUCS for marketing. The attachment has some pics of the Kitchen Kitchen garden proudly maintained and chundered by Dr.H.K.LakshmanRao
